Was gespeichert wird

Dein Anzeigename.

Was Holdout nicht tut

Keine Analyse. Kein Nachverfolgen dessen, was du in der App tust.

Wer was sehen kann

There is no account to sign in to

Holdout never asks for an email address, a password or a phone number. On first launch the app creates an anonymous account on the server, identified only by a random ID. Nothing links it to you unless you type your own name into it.

What is stored

Your display name.

Your profile picture, if you choose one.

Your friend code, generated at random.

Who you are friends with.

Your duels: when they started and ended, how long they lasted, who won.

The time your account was created and last changed.

That is the complete list. It is the same list the database schema contains.

What the sensor does — and does not — do

During a duel the app reads the accelerometer to tell whether the phone is lying still. Those readings are evaluated on the device and are never transmitted or stored. What reaches the server is a single yes or no: at rest, or not.

Why, and on what legal basis

The data exists so the game can work: to show your friends who you are, to match you against each other, and to keep the score. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR — performance of a contract. Without a profile there is no game.

Advertising

After a duel is over, Holdout may show one advert supplied by Google AdMob (Google Ireland Ltd., Dublin). To do that, Google receives your IP address, your advertising ID and technical details of the device. Google is an independent controller for that data, not a processor acting on our behalf — what it does with it is governed by Google’s own privacy policy. Inside the EEA you are asked for consent beforehand, and the legal basis is that consent, Art. 6 (1) (a) GDPR. You may withdraw it at any time under Profile → Advertising → Ad settings. The one-off purchase "Remove ads" switches all of this off: with it, no advert is requested and Google receives nothing.

The purchase

Buying "Remove ads" is handled entirely by Google Play. We never see your name, address or payment details — only whether this Google account owns the product, which is what allows it to be restored on a new phone. The legal basis is Art. 6 (1) (b) GDPR, performance of the purchase contract.

What Holdout does not do

No analytics. No tracking of what you do in the app. No profiling, and no automated decision-making. We do not sell or rent your data, and apart from the advert described above nothing is passed to anyone.

Who can see what

The database enforces this rather than the app. Your profile is visible only to you, to your friends, and to people you have duelled. Strangers cannot look you up, and a friend code can only be redeemed, not enumerated.

Where the data is

On a server in Frankfurt am Main, Germany, operated by Hostinger International Ltd. That is within the EU, so no transfer to a third country takes place. The server keeps ordinary technical logs of the requests it serves; they rotate by size and are not archived.

How long it is kept

Until you delete it. There is no automatic expiry, and there is no backup you cannot reach: deleting your profile deletes the account, the profile, the friendships, the duels and the picture.

Deleting everything

Profile → Reset profile. It happens immediately and cannot be undone. If you would rather ask in writing, or no longer have the app installed, write to office@metic.studio or use holdout.metic.studio.

Your rights

You have the right to access, rectification, erasure, restriction of processing, data portability and objection. "Export my data" in the app answers the right of access directly; for anything else, write to office@metic.studio.

Complaints

You may complain to a supervisory authority at any time. In Austria that is the Datenschutzbehörde, Barichgasse 40–42, 1030 Vienna, dsb.gv.at.

Age

Holdout is not aimed at children under 16. If you are younger, please use it only with the agreement of a parent or guardian.
